I've never seen a copy of The Dark Man, but here is a scan of its 1979 paperback reissue (Zebra, US) as And Love Survived (packaged as a "paranormal romance"):

"They tell me my books are too subtle for the American market. Pyramid did three and said, 'Our critics say you're too English' - whatever that means ... Tor bought two books ... and it looked as if they weren't selling very well at all ... I've just heard that Zebra is going to reissue The Dark Man as And Love Survived, but I don't get a penny as I'm still working off the unearned advance from last time around!"
- RCH in conversation with Stephen Jones & Jo Fletcher, Skeleton Crew, Sept. 1990
What a drastic departure from the ionicus covers! Actually, this is the first time I've seen the cover (any edition of The Dark Man seems elusive for me) but I love this! Have you read it? From the cover blurb I'm guessing it's along the lines of The House and Tomorrow's Ghost, lovers separated by the centuries, that sort of thing?
